If you lack even a small amount of any mineral required to activate these enzymes, physiological processes will still occur but at a much slower pace. Zinc is particularly important for our immune system, as low zinc levels are associated with lower defenses against viral infections. It's important to note that we may not get sick two or three times a year if our immune system had the nutrients and flora it needs to function optimally.
